Preparing For Your First Treatment
What to Expect
Be sure to allow enough time to fill out a comprehensive intake prior to your treatment. Plan to arrive a little early so you will not feel rushed and can enjoy the entire length of your treatment. Please discontinue use of any topical medications or applications of (retinol, retin-A) at least 3-5 days prior to your appointment. Remember that your hair may become damp during the facial, and will usually be held back from your face with a soft wrap or headband, so you may not want to schedule a public appearance right after your facial!
Your First Facial
Facials are generally very relaxing and soothing. Your esthetician will explain to you what the treatment steps will be. Be sure to communicate with your esthetician during the facial if any product burns, itches, or if you need anything or have any questions. Otherwise, just lie back and enjoy the experience.
The Steps of a Facial Treatment
A basic facial involves several key steps to cleanse and rejuvenate the skin. It begins with a thorough cleansing to remove impurities, followed by a skin analysis to determine the best approach. Next, exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and reveal smoother skin. A relaxing massage of the face and neck improves circulation and promotes relaxation. Blackhead extraction, if needed, clears blocked pores. Finally, products tailored to your skin type are applied to nourish and protect the skin.
The Next Steps
After a facial, your skin will probably be soft, smooth and well hydrated. However, if multiple extractions were needed or if you required a fair amount of exfoliation, your face may be somewhat rosy for one to two hours or more, depending on skin sensitivity. This is quite normal. You can apply mineral makeup 24 hours after your facial if there is some redness you want to conceal.
Going Forward
Your esthetician will discuss your treatment plan and homecare; of which samples will be provided before committing to full sizes. This will aid in the improvement of your skin following your professional treatment. Creating this regimen will prolong the benefits of your treatment. Your therapist will explain when and how much of the products to use.
Any appointment changes need to be completed at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time. These changes include cancellations and rescheduling. If you must reschedule, the deposit is only good for ONE time. If there are any additional rescheduling, the appointment will be canceled and a new deposit is required.
Any changes within the 48-hour window need to be communicated via text and email for our records.
No-show appointments will be charged 50% of the total amount of the service and scheduling privileges will be revoked.
As a courtesy, a confirmation is sent when the appointment is booked. In addition, you will receive a 72 hour appointment reminder as well as a "What to Expect" reminder 24 hours prior to your appointment.
No-shows
Anyone who either forgets or consciously chooses to forgo their appointment for whatever reason will be considered a “no-show.” The client may be restricted from scheduling with Key Esthetics indefinitely for abuse of this policy.
Late Arrivals
In the event of late arrival, your session may be shortened or rescheduled based on availability. Out of respect and consideration to your therapist and other clients, please plan accordingly and be on time.
Due to the nature of our products, all sales are final. If you are unsure of which products will best fit your needs, we suggest booking a virtual visit and having our Skin Practitioner guide you in your shopping experience. Sample or travel kits are available with your initial appointment before committing to full size bottles.

For most people, facials can be scheduled every four weeks, although your therapist may recommend a different schedule. There are many variations of facials based on different needs, as well as different lengths of time. A mini facial may be only 20–30 minutes in length, while a more luxurious version may be 75–90 minutes in length. Tell your esthetician exactly what you want to get out of your facial, and she/he will be able to recommend a facial to meet your needs.
We believe in treating skin, most specifically skin of color the HEALTHY way. Most facial treatments require preparation to ensure the skin's barrier is in a healthy state prior to advanced treatments to avoid damage including scarring.
Homecare is required for all advanced treatments - chemical peels, enzyme peels and microneedling. As well as your Skin Practitioner's professional recommendations on which treatments your skin will actually benefit from.
Your skincare therapist's job is to put the integrity of your skin first. This means that all treatments are recommended based on the needs and goals of the client. Administering treatments without properly preparing the skin can lead to worsening the skin's health and causing damage that could take months to heal. Please consult your therapist if you'd like to receive an advanced treatment and it is not already a part of your TREATMENT PLAN.
